Hey, the new iPad will be announced today. It’s a big deal, for people in all types of industries. You’ll likely read about it – either by looking for it or it finding you – then move on.
But what do you do if you are not Apple and you have news to announce?
Do you skip today – and even this week – to make your announcement public?
I’m a huge fan of Google Voice, both for personal and professional uses. I’ve been a user since it was GrandCentral. Transcribed voicemails. Computer-to-phone-to-computer texting. Inbound call filtering. One number ringing all phones at once. Terrific.
Nearly two years ago, I purchased the first iPad. I still have it, and haven’t moved to the iPad 2 for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is that the original iPad hasn’t slowed me down at all.
Then, about nine months ago, I wrote up a few notes on why I felt an iPad is better than a laptop. Since we’re nearing the release of the iPad 3, and since I’ve heavily leaned on my iPad while traveling (a lot) over the past week, I thought it’d be a good time to find out if the iPad is indeed still better than a laptop.
After two years of use (LOTS of use, just ask my wife), I still believe the iPad is better than a laptop. In fact, my belief is so much stronger that I think laptops are going away and our use of ‘computers’ will be based on our location.
Here’s how I came to that belief.
You love cable watching television. Who doesn’t? All those thrilling shows that help you escape your otherwise dull lives. Where would you be if you didn’t have access to cable television?
It turns out, you would be just fine. In fact, you’d probably have more time and energy to check off a few items from that ever-expanding to-do list.
We decided to shift our TV viewing habits. It wasn’t easy, and there remain a few struggles, but the fact we are no longer trapped by the monthly cable bill has given us a bit more ownership of our lives. Here’s how we did it, and how you might be able to do the same:

It seems this would create far more winners than losers, although I imagine the short-term loss of revenue might make the potential losers pitch a fit.
