Funny quote from the wife of the 2010 World Cup final referee, Howard Webb (via NYTimes Goal blog)…
“I don’t know how he does it,” wondered Webb’s wife, Kay. “He can’t take charge of his own children. I don’t know how he manages it on a football pitch.”

A recent Sky Sports news article is encouraging – Roberto Baggio is coming back to soccer in a role with Italy’s national team. After a disastrous 2010 World Cup campaign, it’s good to see Baggio being mentioned as part of Italy’s rebuilding.
For me, Baggio represented an entirely new era in playing and succeeding in playing soccer. A little guy, Baggio was able to throw an entire country on his back and pull them through the finals. While the ending wasn’t fit for a fairytale, the fact he was able to do what he did was astonishing.
I’ll be watching his upcoming success just as intently.

My favorite time of the year, when the Mets play the Giants, and I get to listen to the games being broadcasted by the Giants team of Krukow, Kuiper, Miller, and Flemming.
Go Mets!

We’re doing our first organized run in New York today. The run, Central Park Conservancy Run for Central Park, will be fun, but quite a challenge given the expected high temperatures and increasing humidity.
I did a few runs while in San Francisco – it’s a great way to see parts of a city from a different perspective. Roads are closed to traffic, and you overhear stories from other participants about past runs.
I picked up our numbers and shirts on Thursday evening. Very well organized, especially for a first timer. I love the tags you loop through your shoes to track your times.
We’re excited, and hoping for a wayward sprinkler here and there along the route.

I refreshed the look of this site, at least the main parts of it. I’ll keep updating the other pieces, but I wanted to get something a little less razzle-dazzle, and more focused on the content.
We’ll see how this one holds up. So far, I’m happy with the look.

In a recent article on the A VC site, Fred Wilson talks about the challenges in using the telephone as a means to pitch a business to their venture team:
And it is so easy to say no over the phone. There’s no real human connection. It’s easy to pay half attention or less on the phone. It’s easy to fake that you are listening when you are not.

These days, distributing content to extend its reach is easier then ever. Let’s say you publish a blog post – you can then have that linked into your Twitter account, Facebook feed, LinkedIn profile, etc. A push of one button distributes your content and with a little initial setup, extends the content even further. But how does this affect your writing and planning of your content?
- Planning – This is the tough part. Not only what content are you going to write, but also where will this content appear? If you are writing for a single audience, let’s say your LinkedIn group, the writing would be professional and the headline would be succinct. But what if this particular article is also going to show up on Twitter, Facebook, etc? Does that change your writing style, at least for this particular article? They go hand-in-hand, so let’s talk about…
