How Would Your Team Respond?

You may have heard about some unfortunate news in the world of soccer recently. Luis Suarez and John Terry are both accused of saying very naughty things to their peers.

I’m not here to argue right or wrong, or who’s words were likely said with intent. I’m fascinated with the reaction of their colleagues.

On one side, there’s Luis Suarez. His corner has come out swinging, with words of support from his manager, his teammates, and his countrymen. An impressive show of support from folks near and far.

Then there’s this:

6 Steps To Creating A Community

Over the past few months, I’ve had some stirring to create some sort of community. What I realized, in looking deeper at the word ‘community’, is that I wanted to bring some like-minded folks together from my neighborhood.

The problem? I wasn’t all that involved in my neighborhood. I played soccer during the week and weekend but that wasn’t always in my neighborhood (depending on how you define ‘Upper West Side’).

So, I thought about what it was that I did and the experience I could bring to a community meeting. From that, I started the Upper West Side Work from Home meeting. In a city as big as New York, I thought there might be a handful of folks that shared the same experience / challenges / opportunities I do – working from home and slightly missing some of the commradarie found when working in an office.

Creative, Technology, Reporting – Who To Follow

Ever get tired of the amount of incoming noise when flipping through your daily news? Me, too. Everyone seems to have a handful of websites or authors that they go to during their daily read. I do, too. And I’m sharing my list below.

Why this group of folks? I’m bent on the word creative lately. I’ve always thought creative applied to artists and advertisers. Growing up in a home of creatives, I fell into the trap of thinking creativity = painting, advertising, etc.

Things have changed a bit. Or, more definitively, my way of thinking has changed a bit. I now see creativity in everything: technology, planning, implementation, organization, advertising, marketing, coding, etc. I’m super happy I fell out of my original trap and discovered creative types exist everywhere, in every discipline.

Here are 6 people who I follow regularly and who help me push my creativity to new levels. They may not be creative in the typical sense but their creativity has triggered and influenced change in many different (and overlapping) industries.

Mobile Nirvana: So Very Close

I’ve been looking for mobile nirvana for awhile now, and I think I’m close. Really close. I’m hoping to build a setup / process / workflow where I can do 90% of my work remote (ie, anywhere). That other 10% I can build into any project to ensure it’s completed.

Three new pieces entered my mobile arsenal over the past ten days:

  • WINGStand
  • Pico Projector
  • Gum Plus Power Pack

These additions, coupled with a few other pieces, have allowed me to get pretty close to my goal of 90%. Here’s how it’s working.

My Experience With Occupy Wall Street

This past weekend, I ventured down to Zuccotti Park in New York to check out the Occupy Wall Street movement first-hand. I’ve seen it on TV and have certainly read about it via different channels on the Internet, but it’s always good to see things first-hand before building an opinion or making any kind of statement.

After spending an hour or so down at Zuccotti Park, I can firmly state the following:

I have no idea what the heck is going on down there.
